AK-47 Cannabis Seeds, Cultivate a Classic Legend
AK-47, known colloquially as AK, is a 65/35 to 50/50 Sativa-dominant hybrid with a moderately high potency of up to 20%. With roots in Colombian, Mexican, Thai, and Afghani strains, AK is a balanced hybrid that delivers a buzzy head high as well as a soothing, relaxing body high without the infamous couch lock.
Winner of multiple Cannabis Cups since its creation in 1992, this legendary strain is relatively easy to grow and flowers in 7 to 9 weeks, making it a hot favourite with growers of all levels from novice to guru. However, because of its Sativa lineage, AK plants can grow taller than pure Indicas, which is something to consider while growing indoors. In addition, although these plants thrive both indoors and outdoors, they prefer warmer climates with plenty of sunlight.
Flavor & Aroma
AK47 has a potent, earthy aroma that’s pleasantly paired with subtle notes of pine, sandalwood, and citrus. The complex flavor profile blends earthy and sweet with spice and citrus, resulting in smooth, flavorful hits with an oh-so-pleasurable aftertaste.
Effects & Experience
Being a balanced Sativa/Indica hybrid, AK-47 offers an immediate, heady buzz with boosts of creativity, euphoria, and happiness. This initial uplift is followed quickly by a body high with a deep sense of relaxation and calm that melts away stress and tension.
The moderate THC content of 13 to 20% offers a perfectly balanced experience without the intimidating couch lock experience that other powerful Indicas can cause. However, beginners should still proceed with caution and start with lower doses.
Cultivation Tips
Because of their Sativa genetics, AK-47 plants are often medium to tall, which is something to consider if you’re growing indoors. These plants prefer a warm to temperate climate and do well in outdoor settings with plenty of light. If growing indoors, be sure to provide plenty of exposure through LEDs and keep temperatures between 21 to 27°C.
The dense, resinous buds need plenty of airflow to prevent mold and mildew. Keep humidity between 40 to 50% during the vegetative stage and 30 to 40% during flowering.
AK-47 is a moderate to high yield strain that can deliver 350-500g/m² indoors or 400-600 grams per plant outdoors, depending on environmental conditions and growing techniques. The photoperiod strain typically flowers in 7 to 9 weeks, and if you want a shorter season and quicker harvest, autoflower varieties are also available.
Terpene & Cannabinoid Profile
AK-47 is a moderately potent strain with 13 to 20% THC levels and low CBD, which allows you to enjoy this balanced hybrid without too much risk of getting incapacitated in a couch lock. Myrcene is the most abundant terpene, followed by pinene and caryophyllene.
Known Medical Benefits
AK-47 is a versatile strain that can be used in a variety of medical applications. The uplifting properties of its Sativa genetics have been used to treat depression, stress, and fatigue, while the Indica’s relaxing effects can be used to help with anxiety, stimulate appetite, and reduce nausea.
Some medical users have reported success in using AK-47 to help with symptoms of PTSD and other mood disorders.
Did You Know?
AK-47 dates back to around 1992 in the Netherlands, created by a group of breeders known as Serious Seeds. Like its namesake, the legendary Russian Kalashnikov rifle, it was a strain known to pack a serious punch at that time, notorious for knocking out less experienced smokers with a single hit.
Fast forward to the present day, and the AK-47’s potency pales in comparison to other high-THC strains that can reach upwards of 30%. However, the multiple award-winning AK-47 remains one of the world’s most beloved strains, prized for its easy cultivation and balanced high.
