A cross between Hindu Kush and Purple Afghani, Purple Kush is a classic Indica with a rich history tracing back to the mountain range stretching hundreds of kilometers from Afghanistan to Northwest Pakistan.
Almost 100% Indica, Purple Kush was brought to Oakland, California in the 1970s, where it quickly became one of the most popular strains, beloved for its deeply sedative and relaxing effects and numerous medical applications.
Thanks to its scrappy parent strains that originate from inhospitable, intimidatingly mountainous regions, Purple Kush is is highly resilient to drought, arid conditions, and harsh climates. The plants of today tolerate pests, mold, mildew, and fluctuations in temperature better that many other strains, making them popular with relatively new growers or those in unpredictable climates.
You can expect plants to flower in 7 to 9 weeks and reward you with gorgeous, purple-tinted buds with high resin levels, which is great if you want to make hash. These bushy, stocky plants are suitable for indoor and outdoor grows, especially for those with limited space.
With 22 to 26% THC levels, this almost pure Indica strain can certainly send you into couch-lock, so new users should take it a tad easy at the start!

Cultivation Tips
Purple Kush has hardy, robust genetics that can tolerate mistakes and obstacles well. That being said, the bushy plants still need some TLC to flourish. You can employ some forms of LST or sea of green for better canopy development. Keep them well-ventilated to reduce the risk of mold and rot and use other forms of training like topping and defoliating.
Feed the ideal nutrient mix depending on the plant’s stage of lifecycle, and keep temperature and humidity optimal. Purple Kush likes warm weather, and a temp of 21 to 27 C is ideal, with about 50% humidity during the vegetative stage and 40% during flowering. The strain flowers in about 7 to 9 weeks, which is relatively short compared to other Indicas. If you’re in a rush and want an even shorter growing season, there are autoflower varieties!
This strain can yield 400 to 500 grams per square meter indoors and 500 to 600 grams per plant outdoors. It is a legendary resin producer, so you can think about making hash from trim and shake.
